Georgia sophomore Anna Hall, the national high school record holder in the indoor pentathlon and outdoor heptathlon, along with the No. 4 all-time collegiate performer and No. 9 in U.S. indoor history in the pentathlon at 4,590 points, joins DyeStat editor Erik Boal to discuss competing Feb. 25 in the pentathlon and Feb. 26 in the high jump at the Southeastern Conference Indoor Championships at Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark. Hall examines her last competition Jan. 29 in Arkansas at the Razorback Invitational, clocking 8.48 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles, clearing 6-1.25 (1.86m) in the high jump, throwing 40-2.75 (12.26m), achieving a 19-8 (5.99m) leap in the long jump and closing with a 2:08.19 effort in the 800, the second-fastest performance in collegiate pentathlon history in the middle-distance race. She speaks about the unique nature of Texas A&M standout Tyra Gittens accumulating 4,612 points at the Texas Tech Invitational in Lubbock, also Jan. 29, to ascend to the No. 3 all-time collegiate performer. Hall analyzes what it means to have two multi-event competitors at this elite level going head to head, especially before the national championship meet, and how both athletes have the potential to challenge the 2016 collegiate record of 4,703 points established by former Georgia standout and the only four-time pentathlon winner in Division 1 history in Kendell Williams. She also speaks about the high jump showdown involving herself, Gittens and LSU senior Abby O'Donoghue, the top three indoor performers in the NCAA this season. Hall explains how the relationship involving she and Georgia coach Petros Kyprianou has grown during the past year, and how stronger communication has contributed to her success this season. She emphasizes the Bulldogs' development and improvement this season, and how much of an impact their field-event athletes could have at both the SEC and NCAA championship meets. Hall also reveals how she and other members of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee have been helping in the Athens community by distributing food, toiletries and presents during the holiday season to less fortunate children and families. She also looks ahead to a summer internship with Morgan Stanley, in addition to training for the Olympic Trials in June.
